When it comes to addressing challenging ground conditions for your construction project in New Zealand, StopDigging ground screw piling offers a highly efficient solution. Our underslab piling method is designed to improve ground conditions, combining a standard ‘good ground’ raft slab design with perimeter and/or point load piling. This innovative approach eliminates the need to excavate poor ground, reducing costs, waste, and construction timelines.
Key Features and Benefits
- Elimination of Expensive Cantilever Slab Design: Say goodbye to costly cantilever slab designs or the use of excessive concrete for deep edge thickening.
- Support for Expansive Ground: Ground screws extend beyond the influence of the shrink/swell zone, providing support to the slab edge in expansive ground conditions.
- Versatile in Poor Ground: Ground screws can extend through ground with poor bearing capacity or non-engineered fill into dense, stable zones below.
- Underslab Bridging: Our system can provide underslab bridging, allowing construction over deep-buried services such as water pipes.
- Reduced Need for Retaining Wall Alterations: Ground screw underslab piling can be used close to existing retaining walls, eliminating the need for alteration or improvement work to the retaining walls.
- Zero Waste Solution: Our approach is low impact and creates zero waste, eliminating the removal of suboptimal soils from the site.
Ground screw foundations eliminate ground disturbance, creating zero site waste and significantly increasing on-site productivity compared to traditional methods.
Scope of Use
StopDigging ground screw piling’s underslab piling method is suitable for all types of structures, including residential housing and commercial buildings, with pile design loads of up to 150kN. CodeMark certification simplifies the process, requiring individual pile design loads and positions to be identified by the project structural engineer or slab designer on the slab layout plan.
We conduct on-site static pile testing to determine the size and length of piles required to achieve the necessary design loads. This testing aligns with the recommendations of the geotechnical report, ensuring accuracy and reliability. Formal fixed-price quotations can be provided after testing, reducing the potential for onsite variations during installation/construction.
CodeMark Performance and Building Code Compliance
The StopDigging ground screw system is certified with a CodeMark certificate, aligning with various performance clauses of the New Zealand Building Code, including B1 Structure, B2 Durability, and F2 Hazardous Building Materials.
Limitations on Use
This application’s specifications are tailored to suit site and structural requirements, necessitating a geotechnical report to determine ground condition limitations. Our system is suitable for NZS 3604 Corrosion Zone D, Earthquake Zone Very High, Wind Zone Extra High, and Wind Zone Specific Design.
In-Service History
Although screw piles are not a new concept, StopDigging has been at the forefront of innovation. Founded in the early 2000s in Sweden, StopDigging entered the New Zealand market in 2017, completing thousands of successful projects nationwide.
Other Performance Attributes
Our ground screws have a design life in excess of 100 years for this application, ensuring long-term reliability. Our CodeMark certification represents the highest form of product assurance available in New Zealand.
Choose StopDigging ground screw piling for a reliable, cost-effective, and sustainable solution to address marginal or expansive ground conditions for your construction projects in New Zealand.
